#8 Pattinson’s Fruit – Know your greengrocer

Veg seller visit number 8 is to Pattison’s Fruit who you’ll find at Walton Street Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays 8am – 1pm. They’re at Beverley Market on Saturdays 8am – 4pm.

The family business has been handed down to Lee, a fourth generation fruiterer who really knows his onions. He’s been selling fresh fruit & veg for 56 years now, in fact, since he was 4 years old at Driffield Show – when he sold strawberries standing on an orange box. Pattison’s buy everything for flavour and are popular with discerning customers who appreciate great tasting veg. For example their marfona potatoes, which when grown in a limestone soil, have an amazing flavour.

A fact not many people know that when Lee was 12 years old, he saved a man’s from drowning. The man was having an epileptic fit and fell off a boat into the lake at East Park during Hull Show. The paramedics said that the man would have died if he’d been under the water another minute.

Lee recommends celeriac and kohlrabi to anyone who hasn’t yet tried them, and there are very few people in Hull more knowledgeable than Lee to ask for a recommendation.
