Hull Food Charter Launch – 15th June 2018, Craven Park, Hull
The Hull Food Charter was launched on the Friday 15th of June at Craven Park, home of Hull Kingston Rovers. A hundred delegates from a wide range of local businesses and organisations were in attendance.
Opening the day with a very inspiring talk was the Rt Revd Alison White, The Bishop of Hull.
We then heard from Tim Fielding, City Manager for Health and Wellbeing and Deputy Director of Public Health, who spoke about food and public health.
Tim was followed by Malcolm Relph, City Economy Manager, Regeneration and Policy at Hull City Council. Malcolm spoke about sustainable food and the local economy.
We were also very priviliged to have the world-renowned food writer Geoff Tansey – Curator of the online Food System, as one of our speakers. He spoke about sustainability in food both global and local.
Kay Johnson from The Larder spoke about the importance of working towards a sustainable local food system.
Following that a local food entrepreneurs panel gave short talks: Hull Catering, Beswick Hall Farm, Tickton Grange and Frith Farm spoke about their businesses and why they chose to focus on sustainable food. The videos of the talks will soon be available to watch.
The afternoon of the food charter launch event was spent in workshop sessions exploring the eight points of the Hull Food Charter and what action businesses and organisations could take in each area.
