Nurture Hull

Nurture Hull was a website developed during lockdown with young people from The Junior Design Factory at Creative Briefs and The Warren Youth Project to create a resource where people could go to find out information relating to food in Hull.

Creative Briefs were responsible for developing the look and style of the website: The Junior Design Factory, founded by Hull community interest company Creative Briefs, is a working design studio run entirely by young people aged 8+.

The designers at the Junior Design Factory are all young people who like to learn differently. The junior designers work on proposals for real paying clients, and the young team take the lead roles in design, project management, and promotion of their work.

The young designers worked alongside Hull Food Partnership in producing an exciting new logo for Nurture Hull. Josh, 17, has been at the Junior Design Factory since he was 14 and has project managed the logo design. Whilst our junior creatives, aged 8-12, Rose, Daniel, Lada, Joe, Poppy & Tilly have worked in their own fields; ranging from research, ideation & concept illustration. Assisting them as middleweight designers have been Naomi & Timmy – who have skills in web design and digital technology.

Project manager Josh said “This project makes things real for us. We’ve got a team from all across the UK working together on this with different skills and loads of imagination. It gives us an opportunity to show the world what we can do – and it’s been nice to be part of something local during lockdown”

The Warren assisted us in working with young people in developing the content for the website, By providing support to young people to develop their skills in writing, producing and distributing a series of podcasts as well as ensuring that any young people participating in the wider project had access to all support service for the duration of the project and beyond. Those services include employability, training, counselling support; creative expression, music performance and recording facilities, complementary therapy, nutrition skills and digital skills support.

We are really grateful to both organisations and the young people involved who brought their combined skills and insight to create a valuable resource for the people of Hull.
